Sitting near the banks of the Umia River, in the heart of the Salnés Valley, Lagar de Pintos is housed in a pazo—granite manor houses found all over Galicia—which has been in the Pintos family for four generations. Winemaker Marta Castro-Pintos’ grandfather first forayed into winemaking in the 1940s and ‘50s. In the 1980s, Marta’s father Pepe Castro Pintos modernized the estate to focus on larger-scale wine production, and Marta and her sister Carmen manage the estate today. They farm 7 hectares of estate fruit and have recently transitioned to organic growing for their top wines.
