Compañía de Vinos Tricó is the final, most personal project of José Antonio López, who was instrumental in founding DO Rías Baixas in 1988 and launched Bodegas Morgadío and Bodegas Lusco. Tricó—a Galician word used to refer to an unexpected child born years after other siblings—is located in the inland Condado do Tea subzone, close to the border with Portugal. Tricó works with 7 hectares of vines in Valeixe (A Cañiza) and As Neves, planted mostly to Albariño with small amounts of Treixadura. The three wines produced by Tricó all have longer contact with the lees and extended bottle ageing, and have the potential to age for years in the cellar. In 2024, the winery was purchased by the Ribera del Duero-based Alma Carraovejas group, with López staying on as a technical advisor.
