In the late 1970s, Agricultural Extension worker Horacio Fernández and his colleague José Luis Bartolomé started the ReViVal project: Restructuring the Vineyards of Valdeorras. They conducted a survey of growers to better understand what varieties could work best in future Valdeorras vineyards, and the winner was Godello. Between 1975 and 1976, Agricultural Extension workers set about planting new Godello vines, and finally collected a tiny first harvest of 4,000 kilos. At the same time, Fernández and Bartolomé set up their own experimental winery, which eventually became Bodegas Godeval in 1986. The winery started with 2 hectares and later expanded production with a new winery in 2009. Today, they make about 150,000 bottles of Godello under several different labels, with second-generation Araceli Fernández at the helm.
