Maurizio Alongi

Trained oenologist Maurizio Alongi consults at a handful of estate in Chianti Classico (such as Castello di Querceto and La Montanina). Since 2015, he makes one single wine under his eponymous label. It hails from 1.3 hectares planted in 1973 in the upper forested hinterlands of Gaiole. Fermentation is encouraged naturally with a pied de cuve, macerations are no long than 20 days so as to preserve aromas, and ageing is in mostly used tonneaux. Labeled as a Riserva, Vigna Barbischio tends to be fine framed rather than brawny but reaches savoury, soulful and earthy depths.
