While Piaggia came out of the gate with a certain bragger, the wines today are less brash and markedly cleaner. Modern and polished without lacking personality, they persuade with perfume, well-integrated wood and underlying refreshing acidity. Crafted since 1991 from the estate’s oldest vines, the Riserva is certainly considered the flagbearer. However, second label, Il Sasso typically boasts its own midterm cellaring potential. Finally, Poggio de’ Colli is a stunning example of Cabernet Franc’s capability in Italy.
