San Giusto a Rentennano

This estate is located in the sunlit enclave of Monti, at Gaiole’s southern tip. The introspective Luca Martini di Cigala has been gradually revamping the vineyards to respond to the changing climate by changing row orientation, introducing terraces and bush vines, and experimenting with nets to reduce UV radiation. As for the wines, that annata is a savvy pick when cellaring on a budget, while the Riserva is one of the finest of the denomination – balanced in its substantial dimensions and exceptionally ageworthy. The estate’s top wine Percarlo is a 100% Sangiovese. Made since 1983, it is still bottled as an IGT today.
