Le Casematte

Le Casematte, founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino together with football legend Andrea Barzagli, is a boutique winery located on the hills overlooking the Strait of Messina, in northeastern Sicily. The estate’s vineyards, planted at 250–370 meters above sea level, benefit from constant sea breezes and significant diurnal temperature variation, yielding grapes with freshness and aromatic intensity.

The focus is on native varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera, Grillo, and Catarratto, which thrive on the area’s sandy-clay soils. Farming follows sustainable principles, with hand-harvesting and careful vineyard management.
