Enrico Serafino, established in 1878 by its namesake at the age of 24, is the oldest winery in Canale d’Alba, Piedmont. Situated in the Roero region, the winery has been in continuous operation for over 140 years in its original location. From its inception, the family produced a vast array of wines, sourcing grapes from Barolo to Gavi. Notably, the winery was one of the first to craft metodo classico, becoming a pioneer in Piedmont's sparkling wine production.

The family produced Gavi as early as 1914, evidenced by a mention in its inventory records of “10,400 litres of dry white Gavi wine” stored in the family’s cellar. Today, the wines (three are produced) include the Grifo del Quartaro, the single-vineyard Poggio della Rupe Monterotondo, and the long-aged Maneo. At the winery, fruit is hand-sorted and chilled with dry ice (to avoid oxidation and reduce dependence on sulphur), and gently pressed whole cluster in an inert environment. The must is then cooled before fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Finally, some of the wines are then refined on the lees in stainless steel tanks for 6-7 months before bottling.

These are clean, high-quality wines typifying the attractive simplicity of Gavi with a hint of added complexity. They’re fresh and dry with bright aromas, good structure and balanced acidity. A standout for any drinker seeking quality Gavi.
