Young winemaker Julien Brechet isn’t afraid to shake things up. Since joining the family estate in 2009, first he converted the estate organic, then biodynamic, and has gradually released a growing range of single-vineyard Gigondas wines – including pure Mourvèdre and pure Syrah cuvées, which is not strictly what the Gigondas cahier des charges permits… How does he get away with it? Probably because they are bold, flamboyant, delicious and brilliant wines that display an original view of what can be achieved in this beautiful terroir.
