Alex Foillard

Although Alex Foillard could simply have taken over the family domaine (Domaine Jean Foillard) and basked in the reflected glory of his famous father, he likes to do things on his own terms. Not only does Alex now make the Foillard wines in Morgon, he produces his own characterful wines from plots of land in Brouilly, the Côte de Brouilly and the Beaujolais Villages zone. Rather unusually, his Brouilly comes from a plot of vines grown on blue diorite soil (the stones are more typical of the Côte de Brouilly), but his Côte de Brouilly comes from a pink granite vineyard (a soil type more usually found in Brouilly).
