Isacco Costamagna inherited two hectares in La Morra (in the Torriglione cru) from his grandfather in 2014. The estate fruit was once included in Roberto Voerzio’s Rocche dell'Annunziata and from 2017 to 2020 was sold to Isacco’s neighbor Trediberri, who blended it in their ‘Berri’ label. During this time, Isacco worked for Luigi Oddero and his neighbour, Lorenzo Accomasso, whilst also achieving a degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Turin. In 2021, he stopped selling fruit and launched with Castrum Roche with a Langhe Nebbiolo and occasionally a Langhe Rosato—there will be a Barolo released in 2027 from the same site. In the winery, fermentation is completed with indigenous yeasts and macerated for 10 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation and further ageing for 7 months. The resultant wines are bold and fruity with chewy tannins and robust structure. This is a promising estate which readers should track keenly.
