Langhe - Barbaresco
In 1964, when many local farmers abandoned their land for industrial work in nearby towns, Renato Cigliuti bravely committed to farming his family’s vineyard on the Serraboella hill in Barbaresco, even prioritising quality by performing green harvest to reduce yields— his neighbours suggested he should be committed for throwing away money. Renato released his first 300 bottles of Barbaresco later the same year. Today, the winery is run by Claudia and Silvia, with Renato and his wife Dina supervising. Not much has changed; the family pays close attention to agronomy, carefully managing just seven hectares of healthy, old vines and prioritising balanced yields. In the winery, grapes are fermented spontaneously in stainless steel with temperature control and aged in mid-sized casks. The wines are carnal and perfumed with a dense core and bright acids, recent release has been notably more consistent. The newly-released Langhe Chardonnay is also a big hit, tropical and tangy with heaps of chamomile!
